Goodbyes done, and the afternoon spent attending to his normal duties, he walked through the castle and onto the battlements, wanting one last look before he left. To the west, dark clouds were gathering over the mountains, a sure sign that rain would be upon them by nightfall. Villian looked towards the port; his ship standing proud amongst the fleet; ready for action. The dragonhead was visible; waiting to burn its victims. He could picture himself on the ship ordering the flames to destroy their enemies. Better still, he would be on the back of a real dragon at the head of a fleet of dragons.

He made his way to his hiding place and changed into his new clothes; everything secured and hidden as required. He wrapped up his princely clothes and stashed them behind the loose bricks in the wall, wondering when he would wear them again. He took a deep breath as he took a step into the forest, the day’s goodbyes in his heart, and an unknown future in his mind.

Unfortunately, he didn’t pay as much attention as he should, his head full of future dreams, and great deeds and quests. He didn’t notice he was being followed. Arriving at Raykan’s hut, he knew instantly something was wrong. The fire was out.
